On top of the agenda is the focus on fitment to the industry. There are other equally important personal goals that the students work for: execution - doers not just thinkers, personal transformation through empathy - appreciate others as much as you would expect others to do for you.
SMOT is aware of the fact that the expectation on the MBAs is quiet high from the indutry. Their expectations could be:
- High standards of performance
- Demonstrates application of knowledge
- Listening, speaking and writing skills
- Ability to put across the arguments fluently
- Ability to identify problems and issues
- Ability to understand goals
- Independence and initiative taking ability
- Judement
- Clarity of purpose
- Coming up with more than one option
- Time management
- Self discipline
- Team work and ability to motivate others
- Exposure to multiple cultures
- Global in thinking
- Realism
- Clarity in short and long term goals
These goals are achieved through a set of activities, and some of them are:
- Listen to the knowledge pool of nearly 1200 man years of experience
- Listen to the innumerable short guest lectures on variety of topics
- Have a chance to meet business leaders and listen to them sharing their personal experience
- Listen to faculty coming from all kinds of background and geographies: international, industry and individual consultants
- Exposure to a corporate environment
- Exposure to professional management

“On top of the agenda is the focus on fitment to the industry”. SMOT’s curriculum is designed in such a way that right people get the right job. If this happens there would be no headaches on attrition rate to the corporate. It is true that most of the people don’t get the profile which perfectly suits them in the first job. But why not a solution come for it through SMOT’s curriculum.
I feel the faculties available in SMOT form the pillar for the institute giving a wonderful experience to us. They are all people with phenomenal success and to listen to the teaching of successful people is the key strategy followed by most of the top B-Schools across the globe. Most of the faculties that SMOT provides its students are from industries rather than just academic experience alone which make a management course lot effective. Interacting with such talents, gives a clear picture of the industry demands to any student. I believe the rest of the job of getting more knowledge from these experiences resources is left to the students. My experience in SMOT says that any individual being in SMOT will definitely be motivated while interacting with all the successful people available in the name of faculties at this place. After all, it is going to be the responsibility of the individual to make use of the opportunity, dump all the negative traits in SMOT’s garbage and move towards the corporate world with confidence to achieve and add laurels to the company. I see the students having the desire rather than just a wish to climb up in career ladder. Of course SMOT is the best place for students who really have the passion to pursue MBA studies, apply the knowledge gained successfully in the corporate world and continue his journey towards horizon. With the mix of these kinds of students and faculties, nothing stands between to stop any company from recruiting in SMOT.

“Focus on fitment to the industry” can be achieved only by training the students in the industry perspective. This is excellently followed in SMOT by having faculties from various industrial background.
SMOT tries to bridge the gap there by reducing the attrition rate. I feel the faculties available in SMOT form the pillar for the institute giving a wonderful experience to us about the industry.
Being a fresher i have learnt many things in SMOT. Now i’m visualing how a corporate will be,+’s and -’s in working over there. Hope my friends also feelin the same.
But one thing is for sure is SMOT is doing what it said.

The quality of an institution lies with the curriculum, faculty and students and SMOT definitely excels in all the three. SMOT’s curriculum is designed strategically which enables the students to understand their capabilities and cherish it. Jim Collins quotes in his book “Good to Great” that “It’s Right people who makes the difference for an organization” and SMOT stays in line to this thought. SMOT’s innovation in bringing out different career verticals helps in the process of creating the right people. SMOT emphasizes not on “Skills” but the “right skills for the right people”.
The faculties visiting SMOT are world class, creating excellence in the field of management education. Since SMOT admits associates only with substantial previous work experience to do their programs, it creates a perfect environment to share and implement ideas .The indirect learning that happens through this process is tremendous. SMOT has truly defined its own way to excel in management education and i strongly believe that associates at SMOT will be a perfect asset for a “Great” company and will be a catalyst for a “Good” company in transforming them to “Great”.

SMOT is the first B-School in India to offer full fledged computational finance courses.Computational finance is an unique part of financial management which is offered only at top notch Universities in the world.Students who have excellent mathematics and financial skills dream to have career in this.SMOT Offers these courses through super specializations like Risk Management,Investment Banking.Though few other top institutes offer some computational finance courses they are restricted to one or two electives and not as a whole.
The Unique feauture in SMOT is that even though the courses are new in the country they bring the best faculty who is specialized in the field.I feel this is the turning point of Business School education in India. As SMOT had shown path in this direction more and more schools are expected to follow SMOT.

Sandeep, you are right. Computational Finance is a highly specialized area and requires a strong talent pool, both faculty resource as well as the right set of students. Moving up the value chain, SMOT will continue to through challenges on to itself and raise the bar to meet them.
